This Privacy Policy explains how LikeUs (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and safeguards information when you use likeus.in. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in accordance with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).

By creating a profile on LikeUs, you provide your free, specific, informed, and unconditional consent to the collection and processing of your personal data as described below. You may withdraw consent at any time (see “Your rights”).

1. Who we are

LikeUs is an invitation-only platform that helps verified couples discover other couples for platonic friendships. The service is operated from India and is intended for users located in India.

2. Data we collect

Information you provide

• Account data: name and email address from your Google account when you sign in.
• Profile data: first name, gender, age, city, relationship status, kids, profession, what you’re looking for, interests, social habits, boundaries, languages, and a profile photo.
• Preferences: the kinds of couples you’d like to be matched with (preferred age range, profession, language, social habits, and views on kids). These preferences are private and used only to suggest matches.
• Invite data: when you invite your partner, we generate a single-use, time-limited link tied to your profile.

Information collected automatically

• Authentication cookies set by our auth provider (Supabase) to keep you signed in.
• Basic technical logs (IP address, browser, device, timestamp) used for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting.
• Aggregate usage analytics (e.g. which pages were visited) used to improve the product. These do not identify you individually.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect government IDs, financial data, location coordinates, or data from children under 18.
• We do not knowingly process data of any user under 18. If you are under 18, do not use LikeUs.

3. How we use your data

• To create and operate your profile and your couple’s account.
• To match your couple with other couples whose profiles are compatible with your stated preferences.
• To send you account-related and transactional emails.
• To prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access (security, rate limiting, audit logs).
• To respond to your queries, requests, and grievances.
• To comply with applicable laws and lawful requests from authorities.

4. What other users can see

Only your public profile fields are visible to other verified users when our team facilitates an introduction: first name, gender, age, city, relationship status, kids, profession, what you’re looking for, interests, social habits, boundaries, languages, and your profile photo.

Your preferences are never shown to other users. They are used only on the server side to suggest compatible matches.

Your email address is not shown to other users. Until we launch in-product messaging, introductions happen by email facilitated by our team only after both couples have indicated mutual interest.

5. How we share data

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following categories of processors strictly to operate the service:

• Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) — hosts your profile data on infrastructure located in the AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1) region.
• Vercel — hosts and serves the LikeUs web app.
• Google — provides the sign-in service when you choose “Continue with Google”.
• Resend — sends transactional emails (e.g., when your partner joins).

We may disclose data when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of LikeUs, our users, or the public.

6. Storage and retention

Your data is stored on infrastructure provided by the processors above, primarily in the AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1) region. Some processors may transfer limited data outside India for operational purposes (such as email delivery) under contractual safeguards.

We retain your data:

• For as long as your account is active, so we can provide the service.
• For up to 12 months after account deletion in encrypted backups, after which it is removed from backups in the ordinary course.
• For as long as we are required to retain it under applicable law (for example, to comply with tax, accounting, or legal-process requirements).

7. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

• Access a summary of the personal data we process about you.
• Correct inaccurate or outdated information — you can edit most fields directly in your profile.
• Erase your data by deleting your account.
• Withdraw consent at any time. Note that withdrawing consent will end your access to the service, since processing your profile is core to providing it.
• Nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity.
• Lodge a grievance with our Grievance Officer (below) and, if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any of these rights, email founder.likeus@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in any event within statutory limits.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including TLS in transit, row-level security in the database, single-use unguessable invite tokens, HTTP-Strict-Transport-Security, content security policies, and rate-limited APIs. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever detect a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as required by law.

9. Cookies

We use only cookies that are strictly necessary for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

10. Children

LikeUs is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or via the website. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
